FLOWER CARE

Your flowers have been lovingly grown & harvested - here’s a few tips on caring for them, whether fresh or dried - enjoy!

FRESH Flower Care

  • Display your flowers out of direct sunlight and away from any heat source.

  • Keep your flowers away from fruit. Certain fruits while ripening produce Ethylene Gas; This Gas is odorless and extremely damaging to certain flower varieties – it hastens ripening and causes quick spoilage.

  • Change the water about every 2 days - fresh clean water is the most important factor in cut flower longevity.

  • After a couple days, give your stems a fresh cut with clean snips or scissors when you change the water - always ensuring there are no leaves or foliage below the water line. See exceptions below!

  • Some flowers will fade sooner than others and begin to create bacteria in the water - discard individual blooms from your arrangement as they begin to decay.

  • Never put flowers in a standard home refrigerator. Florist coolers have specially calibrated cooling / humidity standards completely different from the fridge in your kitchen – your home refrigerator could permanently damage your flowers overnight!

Of course there are exceptions to these guidelines!

DAFFODILS - excrete a thick sap toxic to other flowers. If you receive a mixed arrangement with Daffodils, they’ve been conditioned separately to stop the flow of sap - avoid re-cutting them as the sap will resume its flow - fresh water is all they need!

POPPIES - also excrete sap! While not toxic to other flowers, if the sap is allowed to seal the end of the stem, the flower will not be able to drink water! Thus, whenever cutting a Poppy stem, always sear the stem with a flame before placing in water: burn the last inch of the cut stem all around for about 30 seconds, this cauterizes the stem & allows it to drink!

For Large Custom Designed Arrangements a bit more care is required to avoid disrupting the design: large vessels may carefully be tipped over the sink to drain old water, then refilled carefully at the top of the vase.

DRIED Flower Care

Our dried products are hand-crafted slowly, with loving intention, using botanicals grown exclusively at Lindell Flower Farm.

Take special care when handling – dried florals are extremely delicate & prone to a bit of shedding.

Dried flowers are intended for indoor use only:

  • Display in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight

  • Avoid areas with high humidity, like bathrooms

Your beautiful dried product will provide many months of enjoyment if cared for properly.

Note: Lindell Flower Farm grows a wide variety of sustainably-grown, specialty cut flowers - none of which are intended for human or animal consumption.

Keep flowers far from reach of small children & pets.
